TSG 1899 Hoffenheim was founded on 1st July 1899. The club colours are blue and white. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim holds its home games at the Rhein-Neckar arena.

After relegation to the A class in 1989, SAP cofounder Dietmar Hopp decided to act as patron, financially supporting the home team for which he had played in his youth. From then on, the team was able to play its way up from the ninth to the first division of German football within the next 18 years. Even in the football Bundesliga (premier division), the club initially continued on a roll. With a strong campaign, in which Vedad Ibišević played a strong part with 18 goals, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim became the autumn champions after a draw on the 17th match day against FC Schalke 04. To date, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim has once celebrated promotion to the premier division (2008).

At the end of the 2010/11 season, the club held 11th place in the Bundesliga. Players who have put on their boots for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim include German internationals Marvin Compper, Andreas Beck and Tobias Weis.
